Endlers Livebearers are a stunning fish! Closely related to Guppies, As their name suggests, Endlers are a species of… Livebearer! This means that they do not lay eggs but give birth to fully formed babies. They are peaceful and much sought after for their outstanding colours and fins. They are a high energy species will add movement to any community tank.
Endlers will benefit from having live plants in the aquarium as well as artificial ornaments which provide them with places to explore. Endlers are not territorial and this makes them an ideal species for smaller aquariums. They can be kept with other fish that are of a similar size and disposition. Micro rasboras, corydoras catfish and Cherry shrimps are all ideal tankmates.
Endlers livebearers are omnivores and fare best on a wide variety of foods. Flakes should be slightly crushed so that they can be swallowed by these tiny fishes. Livefoods such as daphnia are savoured and Algae is grazed on.
Breeding Endlers is relatively easy as long as the correct water conditions are provided. We always advise keeping more females than males as this allows the females to rest after giving birth. The young (numbering from 5 to 20) are born after around 4 weeks and are fully independent. It is best to keep any heavily pregnant females in a breeding trap so that the babies do not get eaten by other tank mates.
