Head and tail lights are a silver to yellow fish with a single black spot on the body and the base of the tail. The eye is shadowed by bright orange scales and makes these fish easily identifiable. They originate from the Amazon river.
These active little tetras behave in a very similar fashion to neon tetras. This means that both planted areas to provide shade and wide open spaces are appreciated. This is a species that does best in small shoals. Other tetras, dwarf gouramis and smaller cichlids such as Rams make great tank mates for Head and tail light tetras.
These tetras are mid water feeding omnivores. They prefer a variety of foods including daphnia, flake and small pellets. These fish are a shoaling tetra and should be kept in groups of at least six. If you keep even larger numbers, it is more likely that they will express better colours and natural behaviour.
